Messy Play Creativity

Our Creativity Coordinator, Childcare Practitioner at Lint House, organises weekly messy play activities for the children to take part in at Lint House.

The activity consists of arts and crafts and a great chance for the children to get a little bit messy and engage in crafts, which is something they have all missed out on during their early childhood years.

This week the children created items from recycled materials. Our Young Person created her own flower pot, and to top it off, she used some of her perfume to make it smell like real flowers.

You would never know this was made from an only washing tablets pot, ice-lolly sticks and straws!

Celebrating LGBTQ+

Last week at Grace House our children wanted to celebrate Bisexual Awareness Week. One of our young person’s shared her knowledge about LGBTQ+ with the other young people in the home.

When children were asked how they wanted to celebrate and raise awareness of LGBTQ+, they each explained how they would like to do each others make-up for the day.

Children and Staff throughout the day listened to music, whilst doing each others make-up, took lots of photos and had lots of belly laughs!!!

TELFORD WREKIN!

Lint House is a residential children’s home located in Wednesfield, Wolverhampton. We have been open since January 2020 and currently look after two young girls aged 10 and 12.

The children at Lint House are extremely kind, thoughtful and most definitely enjoy supporting and helping others in different ways. As a Hazelmont family at Lint House, we have spoken a lot about raising money for Cancer Research UK over the last few weeks. However we have found it difficult to find a task to fit both the children and adults work and reside at the house.

After a heavy load of concentration, Lint House have decided to all walk the Telford Wrekin on Wednesday 28th October to raise money for Cancer Research UK. This might sound like a big task to some, however the children and adults at Lint House of all different ages and abilities think that together they can achieve their very best, as one big family.

Lint Houses target is £150 and we would love it if you were able to help them achieve their target.

Please click on the link below and donate, to help us reach our target.

Chance to become Head Girl

One of our young people has taken it upon herself to get involved in the chance of becoming Head Girl at her school.

We are unbelievably proud of our young child writing by herself this outstanding letter to present why she is the one to become Head Girl.

After writing this letter by herself, our young child presented it to staff members and her peer in preparation for her to present it at school.

We are more and more proud each day of our young children!

Importance of Stranger Danger

Our young people have been taking part in getting creative on emphasising the importance of stranger danger. We discussed with our children the possible scenarios that could happen and discussed the many ways that we can try and keep ourselves safe whether it’s out in public or online.

Young people explored a stranger danger chart which they created themselves, this did this by making bubbles using balloons and paper mache.

Our children really enjoy being creative as you can see, and have put so much effort and time in creating these, which like us they are unbelievably proud of.

Invitation to Butlins!

As a reward for our children we have arranged for them to enjoy the sun, laughter and joy for a week at Butlins. Covid-19 has been a right pain as a result we believe that our children deserve a well earned break. A date is set for our children already, now all they have to do is find their invitation on a trail hunt. The children had to work together in order to find clues to where there invitations may be. By the end of the trail all children were able to find their invitations ready to go to Butlins.

Happy Holiday, to all our wonderful children!

Volcano Sandcastle

Many of our young people love being creative and imaginative. One of our young people decided to build a volcano in the sandpit.

This child has spent so much time in the morning and when the staff are preparing dinner for our children, to perfect and complete his volcano sandcastle, which he is beyond proud of.

Children's Bird Rescue

Our young children at one of our homes, made a kind and the most heart warming gesture for two birds tangled in the street by a thread. One of our young people placed the birds into a box and held them whilst a staff member cut the thread that was attached to both birds. The two birds were took straight to the Wildlife Rescue by one of our staff members.

UPDATE: The birds are doing incredibly well and they have no broken wings. Both birds need plenty of rest and food. Thanks to our lovely children these birds were saved in time, to receive the necessary care they needed.

Children's Message Board

Every time one of our amazing children visit the Hazelmont office they write a lovely message on their very own message board. Most of the messages read how thankful they are with the love and support we provide to each one of our children. This makes us proud and feel very rewarding that we are able to make a difference to these children’s lives!

Alongside these lovely messages some of our children decide to make posters for us that we pin up in the office with pride.

Anything is achievable...

The day in the life of a Business Administrator is rewarding. Being a Business Administrator but an apprentice allows me to reflect on my performance of my work every day. Without the necessary roles expected of me, as guidance I wouldn’t have any clear expectations and goals to achieve every day. I enjoy coming in to work every day, as no two days are the same. I love a challenge, and, on this apprentice, I have faced challenges in a matter of a couple of weeks, but challenges that are easily achievable, rewarding and implemented as goals to me. One of my very first challenges was to get into a routine where a scheduled time frame was scheduled for me to follow in terms of getting up early, having the responsibility of getting into work on time etc. However, my body clock has now adjusted to allow me to get up every morning without fail and in a routine. This is something everyone alongside the role I have as a Business Administrator for Hazelmont care will experience. To succeed in my role, I need to be responsible for the maintaining of the daily function of the business admin side to work. In doing this correctly every morning I set out objectives for my day that is laid out before me, which is something I would advise anyone to do who is looking at going into first time employment or struggling to remember to get everything done in one day that needs doing.

I would 100% advise any young individual to get onto an apprenticeship in Business Admin as you are able to work and learn on the job together which can lead to a range of varied and exciting opportunities in life. The demand for a business administrator can increase and some days maybe harder than others, but that is a norm in any other job alongside this one, as I have experienced. I am excited to what my future holds within the business sector, and truly thankful for the support from Hazelmont to allow me to settle in so easy and achieve all the things I have done so far. The final words I want to leave with you is everything and anything is achievable if you put your mind to it.

BLM Child's Article

We are exceptionally proud of one of our children for writing this article about Black Lives Matter. This warmed the hearts of all staff members, by the words written.

All Lives Matter Prove it by Making Black Lives Matter

Hello I would just like to tell you a bit about me, I am 13 and have not had an easy life, I live in care but I cannot imagine how much harder it would have been for me if I was black. This story will be written as if I was black.

I can’t stand it when people refer to me as a black person, I am not a black person, I am just a person I despise it when I am called that, people look at me and think I am going to do something horrifying. I get followed around the corner shop, it’s not a nice feeling but everybody has those feelings everyone looks at me like I am different, but I am not.

At school I get the blame for everything. I try to do good, but racism follows me everywhere it’s like trying to play hide and seek with nowhere to hide from it. I like video games because it hides my skin and people can’t judge me.

I shouldn’t have to feel like that. So, when I heard about the Black Lives Matter, it gave me the hope I needed, because it is hard, but, not just for black people, but Muslim and Jamaican and Indian people. We all have lives and their lives matter just as much as mine and yours, but all lives can’t matter until black lives matter.

So, I say BLM yes but every life matters that’s what we should be talking about so tell everybody black lives mater yes, but we all mater because everybody should be equal. Equality is what we should aim for. Honestly, I am white so no, I do not understand what it feels like, but I will try my very hardest to.

The point is black, Muslim, white, Indian Jamaican, Jewish, African, we should be equal so the point of this story is yes black lives matter we will never make up for what has happen in the past, but we can try to make now better. So, all lives matter. I hope you enjoy my small story of what I think my life would have been like if I was black. Thank you for your time reading my story, I really in joyed it and hope you did. Have a good day.

Yours Sincerely

#blm
